Excellent article Hugh. Very interesting. Confirms my belief that in a casino, all is not as it seems! The first time I went to a casino gaming room l noticed there were no windows and no clocks. My friend said this was an intentional design feature of the casino; to keep gambler's at their tables as they lost track of the time and lost connection with the outside world and couldn't see if it was day or night outside.

Thanks Peter, yes casinos are like doctors waiting rooms -- no clocks!

I should have mentioned that.

No wonder I never won at roulette on the few nights we went to the casino at the Gold Coast years ago! Wish I had read this article before this. Haven't been in a casino since the mid eighties. Once again a very interesting article, Hugh.

Gee Hugh, reading about what goes on in casinos and how roulette is played gives me the creeps! I never knew it was so complicated. Thanks for enlightening us. I reckon I will stick to spending my $10* on the pokies at the RSL on Thursday nights and maybe the odd raffle ticket.

*Sometimes as much as $15 if I'm really enjoying it.

I hesitated for a year before writing that article because I knew the arithmetic would drive readers mad -- like roulette! But it is a numbers game. 'm writing one on poetry now -- and I know that too will put some reders off. But it has to be done!

I should tell you that not all raffles are for real! I've seen the evidence.
